It was just meandering through school. I left school with no real sense of direction, got a job as an apprentice, an alleged apprentice, and hated every moment of it. I’d missed so many lessons so they told me I couldn’t stay for exams. The only time I didn’t go truant was cookery classes. You can’t miss them, because you’ve got to bring the goods home! Some aspects of school were all right but towards the end, as I got older, I seemed to get more bored. I was bored.
