In transverse section the cytoplasmic processes can be seen within canaliculae in the bone. The cytoplasmic processes are surrounded by a membrane and contain numerous filaments, as demonstrated both in longitudinal and in transverse sections. There appears to be a homogeneous density superimposed upon the calcium crystals along the border of the bone.
